Solution: Increasing network management capability, documentation accuracy and security to verify authorized end-users and devices within a campus environment — without adding additional staff.

Details: iTRACS worked with the IT Director of a major financial institution on network monitoring and asset management. New construction of a multi-building campus was planned to accommodate a staff of thousands. The challenge was to effectively manage the network and maintain accurate documentation of the entire infrastructure without adding additional staff. Security for the network could be compromised if unauthorized devices gained access to the network potentially introducing a malicious virus or worm.

iTRACS Corporation presented their solution to enable the administrator to effectively manage the infrastructure to detect and pinpoint the physical location of unauthorized devices, and to disable the device connection to the network. The network administrator can effectively detect when a device connects to the network and provide the physical location and verify if the device is authorized. This function can be performed from a remote location if required.

iTRACS Physical Layer Manager (iTRACS PLM) also provides detailed real-time information to seamlessly manage and monitor the moves, adds and changes within the campus environment. Since implementation of iTRACS PLM to the new campus environment, more accurate documentation is maintained, response times have decreased exponentially and unauthorized access to the network has been prevented. iTRACS PLM helped maximize their network utilization and maintain end-to-end network control to increase security and improve asset control.
