Details: A critical financial services data center failed an internal audit for meeting business continuity plans mandated by their compliance officer. The requirement was to have policies and procedures in place prior to any disaster or security emergency. The company failed the audit due to inadequate documentation on how to implement "fail over" requirements for restoring primary WAN connectivity.
Utilizing the iTRACS work order provisioning feature in iTRACS Physical Layer Manager, the Data Center subsequently created a detailed plan for all re-patching and provision of power restoration. These were set as pending work orders that could be implemented immediately in the event of unforeseen circumstances. They could also be revised as needed. This contingent planning and flexibility of response met the internal audit requirements. They established a business continuity plan, constituting a set of best practices for ITIL.
